Rachael works on the forefront of infant nutrition studying the components of breast milk to develop infant formulas that are as close as possible to breast milk. She leads global research on human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs), which are multifunctional prebiotics found in breast milk that help support immune, gut and brain health. Rachael received her PhD degree in immunology from the University of Cambridge, UK and BSc (1st Class Honors) from the University of Ulster, UK. She is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and is a member of the American Association of Immunologists.
