Dr Miguel Toribio-Mateas is a clinical neuroscientist, applied microbiologist, and nutritionist with over two decades of experience in translational research at the intersection of nutrition, microbiome science, and mental health. His work focuses on the microbiota–gut–brain axis, investigating how microbial metabolites, dietary patterns, and fermented foods influence mood, cognition, and emotional resilience.

Alongside his academic research, Dr Toribio-Mateas has extensive experience in nutraceutical R&D, leading projects that translate microbiome and neuroscience insights into innovative, evidence-based formulations for mental wellbeing and cognitive performance. He holds a transdisciplinary professional doctorate in gut microbiome and mental health, is an Honorary Research Fellow at Cardiff University’s School of Psychology, and lectures in nutrition and public health at the University of West London, where he supervises MSc and PhD students.

His work bridges academic and industry settings to develop rigorous, person-centred strategies supporting gut and brain health across clinical and real-world contexts.
